Boris Johnson has confirmed that the world’s first ultra-low emission zone (ULEZ) will launch in central London on September 7, 2020.
Vehicles travelling in the congestion charge zone will need to meet new emission standards 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The restrictions will apply to large vans and minibuses registered from September 1, 2016 (with non-compliant vehicles required to pay a daily charge of £12.50). Also HGVs, buses and coaches registered from 2014 (of which, non-compliant vehicles will pay a daily charge of £100). If the daily charge isn’t paid, a penalty charge, set at £1,000 (reduced to £500 if paid within 14 days), will be issued.
