Venson Automotive Solutions is hosting a series of Freight Transport Association (FTA) seminars designed to help the housing association sector operate safer van fleets.

Taking place around England until the end of the year, the courses are designed for individuals who manage or supervise a van fleet.

Venson is offering housing association staff half-day workshops in order to help them pass a short exam and receive the FTA Certificate of Excellence.

The sessions cover best practice in procuring and managing commercial vehicle fleets.

The FTA Van Excellence Code incorporates advice and support from many of the UK’s leading van fleets and represents a basis for the safe and legal operation of vans and light commercial vehicles (LCV).

It also forms the basis of the accreditation process for operators seeking recognition under FTA’s Van Excellence scheme.

Venson’s training sessions cover vehicle maintenance systems, administration, driver licensing and speed limits, as well as vital information on securing loads, towing equipment and driver behaviour and competence.

The FTA Certificate of Excellence is valid for three years and helps public sector workers and their managers maintain high levels of safety and competence.

Mark Cartwright, head of vans for the FTA, said, “Any organisation operating vehicles as part of its business activity has to consider the safety of drivers and the public.

"Our courses are designed to empower van operators with the knowledge they need to demonstrate best practice.

"The Venson team is a good example of quality professionals focused on raising standards and helping their clients to operate safely, legally and efficiently.”
